The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an early morning shooting in Smiths Station that left a man with multiple gunshot wounds. According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a 911 call at approximately 3:42 a.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from a male subject who reported that he had been shot multiple times by his wife. Deputies responded to a residence in the 100 block of Lee Road 224 and located the male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported by ambulance to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Georgia, where he is receiving treatment for his injuries. The female subject was not at the residence when deputies arrived. According to the sheriff’s office, she was later located at a nearby convenience store and detained. She was transported to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for questioning as investigators continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The sheriff’s office said the initial investigation indicates the woman may be experiencing mental health issues. At this time, the sheriff’s office has not announced any charges against the woman. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details were not immediately available. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 334-749-5651 or Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867).

A law enforcement presence is underway early Tuesday morning.

The presence is taking place near the intersection of Lee Road 224 and Lee Road 225.

Multiple Lee County deputies, Smiths Station firefighters and medics with EAMC EMS are on the scene, as of 5:15 a.m. Eastern time on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

It is unclear at this time what deputies are investigating, but it appears attempts were being made over a loud speaker to get an unknown subject out of a home. Multiple deputies were spotted riding around the area.

At least one person was seen being placed into the back of an ambulance on scene.

This is a developing story.
