Man struck, killed on St. Mary’s Road in Columbus

Columbus police are investigating a deadly pedestrian versus vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday night.
The crash, which involved a pedestrian and a gray or Black GMC pickup truck, occurred on St. Mary’s Road at Leary Avenue around 9:45 P.M. on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan confirmed the pedestrian, who was identified as 29-year-old Esteban Lopez, of Mexico. Lopez was pronounced dead at 10:04 P.M. in the emergency room at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown campus.
Lopez will be sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for an autopsy. The driver, who’s identity has not been released, was reportedly detained at the scene.
The Columbus Police Department’s Motor Squad is investigating the incident.
