Mass shooting at Buffalo, NY supermarket leaves 10 dead, 3 injured

CNAW Newsroom —
Mass shooting at Buffalo, NY supermarket leaves 10 dead, 3 injured

A tragic mass shooting incident has left the Buffalo, New York community after ten people were killed and three people were injured Saturday afternoon at a supermarket in the city.

Buffalo Police and fire/medics were dispatched to TOPS supermarket at the intersection of Jefferson and Riley where they found several people suffering from gunshot wounds.

Local, state, and federal authorities began investigating what led up to the massacre.

In a press conference with authorities, they announced the suspect, as an unidentified 18-year-old, was heavily armed, wearing tactical gear, filmed his attack on Twitch, and is not from the area and traveled hours to the supermarket to proceed with the attack. The shooter was taken into custody by PD on scene.

One of the ten people killed was a retired Buffalo Police officer who was working security at the TOPS supermarket and made contact with the armed suspect when the retired police officer was shot and killed.

The attack is being investigated as a ‘violent extremist hate crime,’ the special agent with FBI said.

The White House sent out an announcement Saturday saying, “The President has been briefed by his Homeland Security Advisor on the horrific shooting in Buffalo, NY this afternoon. He will continue to receive updates throughout the evening and tomorrow as further information develops. The President and the First Lady are praying for those who have been lost and for their loved ones.”

The New York Governor, Kathy Hocul, is now on the way to Buffalo, a tweet sent out by Kathy said, “My heart breaks for the victims’ families and for everyone impacted by this horrific and despicable act of violence.”

A family unification site in Buffalo for those separated from loved ones in the wake of today’s shooting is located at Makowski Early Childhood Center, 1095 Jefferson Ave. in Buffalo.
