One person was killed in a Monday evening house fire in LaGrange, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

“Engine 4 arrived on the scene and encountered heavy smoke showing from the 2nd floor of the structure. Engine 4’s crew began primary search and fire attack,” the fire department stated in a press release. “Engine 5 arrived and assisted with the search for occupants. The next arriving companies established water supply, deployed additional hose lines and placed multiple ladders to the 2nd floor and continued the search for occupants.”

The victim was located in an upstairs room in a collapse zone. Troup County Coroner Erin Hackley confirmed the identity of the victim as 32-year-old Alan Railey.

Two police officers were transported to the emergency room for smoke inhalation as they went inside the structure before fire crews arrived. They were both discharged and returned to the scene later.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to assist with the investigation.

Pre-incident value of the residence was estimated at $122,300. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
