Alabama, Florida, and Georgia investigators and detectives have made an arrest in a multi-state crime spree.

The investigation, which was being conducted by Lee County Sheriff’s Investigators, Opelika Police Detectives, Auburn Police Detectives, Harris County Sheriff’s Office Investigators, DeFuniak Springs Detectives, and other agencies, began several months after agencies received multiple reports of crimes involving breaking and entering motor vehicles, theft of property, fraud, identity theft, fraudulent use of credit/debit cards, Forgery and other crimes associated with the listed charges.

Through a joint effort by the listed agencies, a Lafayette man, identified as 34-year-old Cortney Deshon Malone, was developed as the suspect.

Malone was apprehended at a Lafayette residence on Martin Luther King Drive on March 8, 2024. Investigators say Malone is being charged with over 30 felony crimes between multiple agencies.

He is being held in the Lee County Jail on a $51,500.00 bond. “More charges are expected through Alabama, Georgia, and Florida,” investigators added.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 334-749-5651 or Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867)
