Multiple fatalities, injuries in northwest Troup County crash Sunday night

A horrific motor vehicle crash Sunday evening in northwest Troup County has claimed the lives of two, and injured three others.
The two-vehicle crash occurred on Antioch Road near Chewning Road around 9 P.M. on Sunday, March 10, 2024. According to the fire department scanner traffic and a livestream on social media, at least one vehicle was on fire.
First responders found multiple patients near the crash site. Two patients were transported to Wellstar West Georgia Hospital, while three others were transported by medical helicopters to nearby medical facilities.
Troup County Coroner Erin Hackley confirmed Monday morning that 47-year-old Matalito Bass was pronounced dead at Wellstar West Georgia Hospital at 9:21 P.M. and 42-year-old Cory Maddox was pronounced dead at Wellstar West Georgia Hospital at 11:16 P.M. Bass and Maddox are both from LaGrange.
The conditions of the three injured patients are unknown at this time.
The collision is being investigated by Georgia State Patrol’s SCRT team.
