Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office awarded $141,679.01 grant for local DUI enforcement

CNAW Newsroom —
Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office awarded $141,679.01 grant for local DUI enforcement

The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office has received a $141,679.01 H.E.A.T. grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) for Federal Fiscal Year 2026 (Oct 1, 2025 – Sept 30, 2026). It is one of 26 law enforcement agencies in Georgia awarded the grant.

The grant will help the Muscogee County H.E.A.T. Unit implement strategies to reduce crashes caused by aggressive and dangerous driving. The H.E.A.T. program targets impaired driving, speeding, and low seat belt use, while focusing on public education and enforcement.

GOHS Director Allen Poole stated, “Crash data shows enforcement and education of traffic laws are two of most effective countermeasures… Each life saved on our roads is one less family that will have to live with the pain of losing a loved one.”

Sheriff Greg Countryman emphasized the department’s commitment by saying, “Our citizens can enjoy a better quality of life when we remove impaired drivers from our roadways… The goal is to have safer roadways for all Georgians.”

The Sheriff’s Office will also continue its participation in GOHS campaigns like Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It Or Ticket, including patrols, roadchecks, and sobriety checkpoints throughout the year.
