  • Approximately nine acres burned in a brush fire Tuesday afternoon in Russell County's Dixie community.
  • Fourteen firefighters from five departments responded; this marks the seventh fire in the area recently.

Over a dozen volunteer firefighters responded to another brush fire Tuesday afternoon in the Dixie community of Russell County.

The Dixie Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the 100 block of Gullatt Road, a couple of miles north of U.S. Highway 80 West, around 4:39 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026.

A total of seven fire trucks and 14 firefighters from the Dixie, Crawford, Uchee Creek, Beauregard and Ladonia volunteer fire departments responded to the scene.

When CNAW2News crews arrived, heavy smoke could be seen billowing from the area, with flames burning throughout a firebreak created by Alabama Forestry Commission crews.

Officials said approximately nine acres burned in the fire. This marks the seventh fire reported in the area over the past couple of weeks. CNAW2News previously reported on brush fires in the area on Sept. 8 and Sept. 30.

Officials warn that smoke and flames may continue to be visible throughout the firebreak and urge motorists traveling through the area to use caution.

The cause of Tuesday's fire remains unclear. Russell County remains under a burn ban through Oct. 31, and residents are urged to comply with the restrictions.
