No threat found at Auburn University Library

CNAW Newsroom —
No threat found at Auburn University Library

An all clear has been given at Auburn University, following a heavy police presence at Ralph Brown Draughon Library.

Auburn University Campus Safety has confirmed Auburn Police immediately responded to a false report of a possible threat on campus

“Following a thorough search, authorities determined there was no threat to the Auburn University community,” their statement adds.

CNAW2News.com spoke with one parent who’s daughter was in a study group when law enforcement arrived in tactical gear. CNAW2News.com has spoke with several people who stated they were evacuated from the library.

This incident comes after numerous universities have received “swatting incidents” across the United States of America.

Federal Bureau of Investigation in Atlanta states their agency has seen an increase in these events, and are taking “potential hoax threats very seriously because it puts innocent people at risk.”

“Knowingly providing false information to emergency service agencies about a possible threat to life drains law enforcement resources, costs thousands of dollars, and, most importantly, puts innocent people at risk,” FBI Atlanta added.

Auburn Public Safety have confirmed that following an investigation, the call was fabricated. “The unfounded threat associated with this incident is a felony as defined by Alabama state law,” they added.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with any related information is encouraged to contact the Auburn Police Department at (334) 501-3100. Information can also be reported by calling or texting the tip line at (334) 246-1391 or by emailing [email protected].
