The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is investigating an officer-involved shooting which occurred overnight in Columbus.

The ordeal began around 1:18 A.M. on Thursday, February 6, 2025, when officers responded to a reported domestic dispute involving 25-year-old Jacob Kyle Brannon and a woman in the area of 42nd Street and Lakewood Drive.

According to GBI, when the officer arrived, Brannon ran away from the scene and while doing so, shot at the officer with a handgun. The officer returned fire, hitting Brannon multiple times. Brannon was transported to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

“In line with protocol, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been notified and will lead the investigation into this incident,” police said. “Additionally, the Columbus Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards will conduct a thorough internal review.”

The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigations, which is standard procedure during these situations.
