Opelika man arrested, charged in armed robberies at Beauregard stores

CNAW Newsroom —
Opelika man arrested, charged in armed robberies at Beauregard stores

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has arrested an Opelika man in connection with two armed robberies: one that occurred on August 18, 2025, at the Dollar General in the 15000 block of Alabama Highway 51, and another on September 4, 2025, at Mike’s Grocery in the 4400 block of Lee Road 166.

Authorities say the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Cortaveus Markeyon Eiland, allegedly walked into both stores wearing dark clothing and sunglasses.

During the Mike’s Grocery robbery, Eiland allegedly grabbed a Sprite from the cooler, walked to the register, pulled what appeared to be a handgun concealed in a bag from his waistband, and threatened to shoot the clerk if she did not hand over money. He left the store in a gray SUV but was later arrested at a residence in the 2000 block of Lee Road 400.

During the first armed robbery, at Dollar General, Eiland allegedly walked up to the clerk, produced what appeared to be a handgun in a bag, pointed it at her, and demanded money. The clerk complied; he ran out of the store and escaped in a gray SUV.

“Evidence from the Mike’s Grocery robbery linked Eiland to the Dollar General robbery,” authorities said.

Eiland is being held in the Lee County Detention Center without bail on two counts of first-degree robbery and is awaiting an Aniah’s Law hearing.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 334-749-5651 or Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867).
