Key takeaways
  • Opelika police arrested multiple individuals for armed robberies occurring in June and August 2025.
  • Suspects used firearms to rob victims of money and a firearm in separate incidents.

The Opelika Police Department has arrested several individuals in connection with robbery investigations that began earlier this summer.

The investigation began after police responded to Color Vision Rent to Own, located on Pepperell Parkway, on June 26. Police stated the victim reported meeting two males in the parking lot to sell a firearm.

“the two males agreed to buy the firearm and drove away to get cash. When the males returned, there was a third male present, and during the transaction, one of the suspects pointed a firearm at the victim before leaving with the money and the for-sale firearm,” investigators said. The investigation led to the arrest of 20-year-old Kenyan Dashun Vann, from Opelika, AL, for Robbery, First Degree on June 30, 2025. On August 20, 2025, a 17-year-old juvenile from Auburn, AL, was arrested for Robbery, First Degree stemming from the same incident.

An investigation was then launched after police responded to another armed robbery in the 3500 block of Dale Avenue on August 18, 2025.

“Two individuals reported that they were driving in the area when a U-Haul truck went around their vehicle and stopped, blocking their path,” investigators added. “Two suspects exited the truck, and one pointed a firearm at them and demanded money. After the robbery, both suspects fled the scene in the U-Haul truck.”

Following an investigation, Opelika Detectives executed search warrants and arrested 40-year-old Corey Sheve Cooper and 22-year-old Justin Martinez Monrell McGhee, both from Opelika, AL, and charged them with robbery, first degree.

Vann, Cooper and McGhee were all taken to the Lee County Justice Center.
