Opelika police officer struck by vehicle; Manhunt underway for suspect in Auburn

CNAW Newsroom —
Opelika police officer struck by vehicle; Manhunt underway for suspect in Auburn

An Opelika police officer has been struck and reportedly dragged by a motor vehicle in the Kroger parking lot in the Tiger Town shopping center after the officer was called to the store for reports of a driver striking a cart return.

The suspect attempted to flee the scene when the officer arrived, which then led to the suspect striking the officer with the vehicle. The officer was able to dispatch additional units and rescue responded to the scene and the officer was transported to the hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

“With the assistance of the Auburn Police Department, the suspect’s vehicle was located a short time later in the Auburn area,” police added. “Several agencies are searching the area attempting to locate the suspect.”

Auburn Police are describing the suspect as a black male who stands at 6’ – 6’2”and wearing a grey shirt and blue jeans.

If you observe a suspicious person in the area of South College Street, Auburn Technology Parkway South, and the Auburn Softball Complex, call 911. Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has a helicopter up in the area, along with ground units from ALEA, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Auburn Police Department, and Opelika Police Department.
