CNAW Newsroom —
Possible hate crime inside office in Haley Center on Auburn campus under investigation

An investigation is underway by police officials after a possible hate crime in an office inside the Harley Center.

The investigation began after AU Campus Safety & Security received a report of vandalism potentially motivated by gender and race bias Sunday afternoon that occurred in an office in Haley Center between 11pm Saturday, December 2, 2023 and 2pm today, December 3, 2023.

“This crime was reported to Campus Safety & Security by one of the victims,” officials said.

“The reporting party stated that items in her shared office were damaged and racial and gender-based slurs were written on a white board.”

A suspect has not been identified. “A detailed description of the suspect is not available,” they added. “Police are investigating and the AA/EEO Office is being notified.”

If you see suspicious activity or a person behaving suspiciously, notify police at 911 (emergencies or crimes in progress), 334-501-3100 (non-emergencies) or 334-246-1391 (tip line – text or call).
