Earlier today, authorities from Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office’s Uniform Patrol Bureau, Special Operations Bureau, Park Patrol, HEAT Unit, Columbus Police Department, Phenix City Police Department, and ATF Task Force Operators/K9’s, all responded to a bomb threat to the Columbus Consolidated Government center from an unknown male. The call was placed around 3:45 P.M. on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office says following the initial call, the suspect, identified as Christian Cruz-Benitez, was located and apprehended.

Cruz-Benitez had been released earlier today from the Muscogee County Jail, where he was being housed for a previous bomb threat from several years ago to the Columbus Consolidated Government center.

Cruz-Benitez was charged with one felony count of Terroristic Threats and Acts and was transported to the Muscogee County Jail without incident.
