Two employees of Russell County High School have been arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged inappropriate conduct involving a student.

Sheriff of Russell County, Heath Taylor, announced Tuesday morning in a press conference that 45-year-old Charles Davis, the girls flag football coach, and 25-year-old Courtnie Jones, a school receptionist, were taken into custody following a months-long investigation that began in February after students reported a suspected relationship between a student and a faculty member.

Davis, who had worked at the school since October of 2021, was arrested in Atlanta and charged with sexual contact with a student, solicitation of sexual contact with a student, school employee soliciting obscene material, solicitation of child sexual abuse material (child pornography), and intimidating a witness. Davis is currently being held in the Fulton County Jail and will be extradited to Russell County to face the charges mentioned above.

Jones’ mugshot was provided through the Russell County Jail database.

Jones, who had worked at the school since September of 2023, was charged with intimidating a witness and hindering prosecution. She has since been bonded out after being arrested in nearby Smiths Station.

Sheriff Taylor reported that Davis and Jones were placed on administrative leave following allegations of misconduct. An investigation, which included reviewing a year of school surveillance footage, revealed that Davis allegedly groomed a student, while Jones facilitated communication between them, even providing a cellphone. Taylor stressed that student safety is the top priority and confirmed the investigation is ongoing.
