Severe weather expected across southern states, including our viewing area

CNAW Newsroom —
Severe weather expected across southern states, including our viewing area

A severe weather outbreak with the chance of damaging winds, tornadoes, and hail are expected as a Quasi-Linear Convective System moves through the southern states, including the east Alabama and west Georgia counties of the Chattahoochee Valley area.

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center announced in their discussion that damaging winds possibly near hurricane force are expected, along with the chance of tornadoes across the large-scale risk area from all the way to Louisiana past the Alabama/Georgia border.

The National Weather Service located in Birmingham, Alabama says residents that will see the storm should expect impacts including tree damage, power outages and unsecured objects being blown around.

Rain measurements suggest that our area could see up to 2-inches of rain with 40+ MPH wind gusts. The tornado threat for our area remains low but not zero, but the chance for damaging wind gusts is higher than the tornado threat. Storms in our area will begin around 11PM and last til 6AM central times/ 12AM – 7 AM eastern time.

To prepare for the storm, the National Weather Service, suggests that you: bring indoors all unsecured objects outside that could blow around, have batteries ready for flashlights and battery operated radio, have cell phone charged up, have bottled water and other non-perishable foods available. Have multiple reliable ways to get weather warnings later today and overnight.
