CNAW Newsroom —
Shooting investigation underway in Troup County after gunfire injures woman, damages property

A shooting investigation  is underway in Troup County after a woman was injured and property was damaged.

Deputies with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to New Hutchinson Mill Road in regards to a person that had been shot on October 8th at 9:56 PM.

“Once deputies arrived on scene they made contact with an adult female who stated she believed she had been shot in the back and that was confirmed by the deputy as he observed a small gunshot wound near the center part of her back,” authorities said.

“While speaking with the victim and others inside the home they described hearing what sounded like firecrackers outside the home and then realized bullets were in fact penetrating the house at which time the victim was struck.”

The victim was transported to a Columbus area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A crime scene was established and the Criminal Investigations Division was notified.

“While checking the exterior of the home, multiple shell casings were recovered and it was discovered that a neighbor’s vehicle also had been struck by gunfire,” authorities added.

No suspects have been identified at this time, this is an on-going investigation.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact our Criminal Investigation Division at 706-883-1616 or Troup County Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000.
