Six arrests made in Dadeville mass shooting, ALEA confirms

CNAW Newsroom —
Six arrests made in Dadeville mass shooting, ALEA confirms

Three teenagers and three men are facing charges after a shooting during a Sweet 16 Birthday party in Dadeville, Ala. left 4 dead, and 32 injured.

The Sweet 16 was being held for Alexis Dowdell at Mahogany Masterpiece, on North Broadnax Street. A DJ, identified as Keenan Cooper, arrived to the party at 9:40 P.M., and the lights turned off, and the music began. Later, Cooper said while DJ-ing, there was reports of someone at the party with a gun. The music stopped, and the partygoers asked whoever had a gun to leave. No one left.

Shortly thereafter, at 10:34 P.M., gunfire broke out and that is when partygoers turned into gunshot wound victims.

Law enforcement officials and medics from across East Alabama responded to the scene and established a crime scene. Victims were transported to surrounding hospitals. The shooting resulted in four people dying and thirty-two people being wounded.

More than 72 hours later, Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), arrested Ty Reik McCullough, 17, of Tuskegee and Travis McCullough, 16, also of Tuskegee, on Monday night at 8:30 P.M. At approximately 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), made a third arrest in connection to the Tallapoosa County death investigation in Dadeville. Wilson LaMar Hill Jr., 20, of Auburn was arrested.

Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), made a fourth and fifth arrest on Thursday, April 20. Johnny Letron Brown, 20, of Tuskegee, and Willie George Brown Jr., 19, of Auburn, were arrested.

A sixth arrest was made later on Thursday. Tallapoosa County District Attorney Mike Segrest said a 15-year-old male from Macon County was arrested, according to Central Alabama CrimeStoppers. The teen’s name has not released at this time due to his age.

All six individuals were charged with four counts of Reckless Murder.

“These individuals have been charged after a complex and thorough investigation was conducted with assistance from a multitude of law enforcement agencies,” Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said. “The Dadeville Police Department, the Tuskegee Police Department, Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office, Macon County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the United States Marshals Service and the 5th Circuit District Attorney’s Office were all instrumental in assisting and supporting the investigation, along with locating and apprehending the suspects.”

Local, state, and federal investigators from across the region are continuing their investigation.
