Six people shot on 50th Avenue SW in Lanett, police say

CNAW Newsroom —
Six people shot on 50th Avenue SW in Lanett, police say

A mass shooting is under investigation by law enforcement agencies in Lanett, Alabama after the shooting left six people with injuries.

Lanett officers received a call to 1912 50th Avenue SW at approximately 9:41 P.M. on October 13, 2022, about a shooting. Officers determined that 6 people were suffering from apparent gunshot wounds when they arrived on the scene.

Medical treatment was provided by Lanett Fire and EMS, East Alabama Fire and EMS, East Alabama Medical Center EMS, and Huguley Fire Department, and persons were transported to multiple different hospitals for further treatment. All six injured parties are in stable condition.

“Investigators located a secondary scene nearby that was related to the initial call,” police said in a press release sent out.

The incident appears to be isolated in nature and the public is not believed to be in any danger. The investigation suggests that there were multiple shooters, with the secondary scene also containing firearm evidence.

Lanett Police was assisted in the investigation by Valley Police Department, Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

This is the first mass shooting in Chambers County this year, and the first mass shooting in the Chattahoochee Valley area this year. The reason this is a mass shooting is that it has 4 or more gunshot wound victims.

The case remains under investigation by the Lanett Police Department Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone with any information regarding the case is asked to contact Lanett PD at 334-644-2146. Tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 334-215-7867 or online at www.215stop.com.
