Smiths Station man allegedly sexually abuses young sisters

CNAW Newsroom —
Smiths Station man allegedly sexually abuses young sisters

A Smiths Station man is behind bars in connection with the sexual abuse of juvenile sisters.

The investigation into the abuse began when, on March 12th, 2022, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a report of Sexual Abuse of a juvenile female under the age of 18 that occurred in the 1200 block of Lee Rd. 249 in Smiths Station.

A known acquaintance, identified as 60-year-old Alonzo Banks Martin, from Smiths Station, was named as a suspect at the time.

“During the investigation, evidence was obtained that suggested Martin had sexually abused the juvenile female along with her sister who is also under the age of 18,” a press release by the sheriff’s office said late Wednesday morning. “Warrants were obtained but Martin was not located at the time.”

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies were able to make contact with Martin at his residence, in the 900 block of Lee Road 243, on August 30th, 2022. When they began to make contact, Martin fled out the back door of his residence, and law enforcement began a search causing Smiths Station High School to go on “Secure Your Area” status. He was found, and arrested and charged with 2 counts of Sexual Abuse in the 1st Degree, 1 count of Giving a false name to Law Enforcement, 1 count of Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree, 1 warrant for failing to appear for giving a false name, and 1 warrant for failing to appear for possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is being held in the Lee County Jail on a $54,500.00 bond.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 334-749-5651 or Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867).
