Smiths Station theft suspects arrested after high speed chase

CNAW Newsroom —
Smiths Station theft suspects arrested after high speed chase

A high speed chase in Lee County has led to two subjects being arrested.

Lee County deputies were called to a theft in Smiths Station. A deputy located the suspect vehicle in the area of Lee Road 250 at U.S. Highway 280 and performed a traffic stop. When the deputy approached the vehicle during the traffic stop, the suspects fled, Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones said.

The pursuit ended after spikes were deployed at Opelika city limits on U.S. Highway 280.

The vehicle finally came to a stop, and the driver and passenger fled into wooded area. They were eventually taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.

No one was injured in the ordeal.
