Suspect in deadly metro Atlanta attack captured in Troup County, GSP says

CNAW Newsroom —
UPDATE: Suspect in deadly metro Atlanta attack captured in Troup County, GSP says
Key takeaways
  • Suspect in deadly metro Atlanta attack arrested Monday in Troup County after coordinated law enforcement response on Interstate 185.
  • Woman shot multiple times while walking dog in Decatur; suspect arrested without incident during traffic stop on Upper Big Springs Road.

A man wanted in connection with a violent attack in metro Atlanta was taken into custody Monday morning in Troup County after a coordinated response involving the Georgia State Patrol and other law enforcement agencies, according to an updated statement from the Georgia Department of Public Safety.

Authorities say the arrest happened on April 13, 2026, after Troop D Communications issued a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) around 10:53 a.m. for a 2025 Volkswagen Jetta traveling south on Interstate 85 near mile marker 30. The BOLO stated the driver was suspected in a murder in Brookhaven, Georgia.

A Department of Public Safety Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officer spotted the vehicle as it exited from Interstate 85 onto Interstate 185 south and began following at a distance while waiting for additional troopers and officers to respond.

Troopers positioned near Upper Big Springs Road were alerted when the suspect exited I-185. Once the vehicle turned onto Upper Big Springs Road, troopers initiated a traffic stop based on the BOLO. Officials say the driver complied with all commands during the felony stop.

The suspect was identified as the murder suspect and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, where he was held pending the arrival of the DeKalb County Police Department. The vehicle was also taken to the sheriff’s office for crime scene processing.

Earlier in the day, at least two attacks had occurred, sparking a multi-agency manhunt across West Georgia. One of the attacks happened around 7 a.m. on Battle Forrest Drive in Decatur, where a woman walking her dog was shot multiple times and later died from her injuries, according to 11Alive.

Officials have not yet released the suspect’s identity or announced formal charges. The investigation remains ongoing.
