Three people were jailed after more than 50 dogs were found dead or emaciated at a Lee County home.

The animal cruelty investigation began shortly before 11 a.m. on Monday after a concerned citizen called the Lee County Sheriff’s Office about possible animal cruelty at a home. The home is located in the 8100 block of Lee Road 146 in the Beauregard community.

During the investigation, Lee County deputies and investigators located 29 deceased dogs ranging from puppies to adult dogs. The deceased dogs had been placed in plastic bags and thrown in a pile in the backyard of the residence, according to officials.

Investigators located approximately 24 additional dogs inside the residence that were alive but appeared to be emaciated. Lee County Animal Control responded and took possession of the live animals
