Three juveniles charged with over 130 felony counts in Hogansville and Troup County auto theft cases

CNAW Newsroom —
Three juveniles charged with over 130 felony counts in Hogansville and Troup County auto theft cases

Three juvenile suspects have been arrested and charged with more than 130 felony counts in connection to a widespread series of vehicle break-ins across Troup County and the City of Hogansville, officials announced today.

On June 2, investigators from the City of Hogansville, working alongside the Troup County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, conducted interviews with the suspects, two 14-year-olds and one 15-year-old, who are now facing serious charges in what authorities describe as a major case of coordinated vehicle thefts.

The juveniles have been tied to 35 separate entering auto cases, and as a result, face a total of 84 felony charges related to crimes inside the Hogansville city limits. An additional over 50 felony counts stem from incidents across other parts of Troup County. The charges include entering auto, theft, and firearms violations.

According to investigators, the string of crimes began in March and continued through June 1, with incidents occurring at numerous locations throughout the county and possibly beyond. Authorities are now working with law enforcement agencies in other jurisdictions to determine if the suspects are connected to similar crimes outside of Troup County.

Some stolen items have been recovered, and investigators have begun contacting victims as they work through the dozens of cases.

“In a majority of these incidents, the victims reported that their vehicle was left unlocked,” said the Sheriff’s Office in a statement. “This is certainly a good reminder to always lock your vehicle and never leave items of value in the vehicle when unattended.”

Sheriff James Woodruff praised the investigative team’s efforts, saying, “I want to thank my excellent team of investigators who have been working tirelessly to try and find those responsible for these crimes and charge them accordingly.”

The case remains ongoing and active.
