A Norfolk Southern train struck an 18-wheeler at a Smiths Station railroad crossing.

The crash occurred around 3:50 P.M. on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the railroad crossing on Lee Road 223 off of Lee Road 430.

The 18-wheeler suffered serious damage to the center of the trailer. Smiths Station Fire & Rescue, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and EAMC ETS responded to the scene and cleared the scene before 4:20 P.M.

Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, but video footage from a nearby business, Cartek, shows the 18-wheeler turning right onto Lee Road 223, not stopping at the designated stop sign, and continuing to cross the railroad crossing when the crash occurred. The driver appeared to have no injuries.
