A Tuskegee man is in custody following a vehicle theft investigation that led to his arrest in Shorter, Alabama.

Auburn Police, with assistance from the Shorter Police Department, arrested 23-year-old Dion Jaquan Pickett of Tuskegee for theft of property first degree on October 1, 2025.

The arrest follows a report filed on Sept. 29, when a complainant informed Auburn officers that a vehicle had been stolen from a business in the 800 block of Opelika Road.

Following the report, investigators identified Pickett as a suspect. On Oct. 1, Shorter Police officers located the stolen vehicle in Shorter, Alabama. Pickett was found nearby and was taken into custody.

During the arrest, police say Pickett did not comply with officers, leading to an additional resisting arrest charge filed by the Shorter Police Department.

Authorities also reported that Pickett sustained a self-inflicted injury while detained in a police vehicle and was treated at the scene.

Pickett was later transported to the Lee County Jail, where he remains in custody pending review by the Alabama Department of Pardons and Paroles.

The investigation is ongoing.
