Two dead, one injured after gunfire erupts in Eagle Trace Apartments in Columbus

A late Wednesday night shooting in the south-side area of Columbus has left two men dead and another injured.

Emergency units, both from Fire/EMS and police, responded to 2001 Torch Hill Road, which is the address of Eagle Trace Apartments, where they found three men suffering from gunshot wounds around 11:30 P.M. on August 31st. Emergency medical technicians were able to transport two of the victims to the Piedmont Columbus Regionalemergency room, while another was pronounced deceased on the scene.

One of the victims who was transported to Piedmont hospital was later pronounced deceased, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said. The other victim, identified as 18-year-old Steven Copeland, who was transported had surgery completed and has non-life-threatening injuries.

18-year-old Anton Hamilton and 17-year-of Myshaun Smith were identified as the deceased victims. Smith was pronounced deceased at 12:03 A.M. on September 1st, while Hamilton was pronounced deceased at 12:46 A.M. on September 1st.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan says their Hamilton or Smith were not carrying identification on them during the time of the shooting. Hamilton and Smith are going for an autopsy due to the death being a homicide by shooting. This is the 28th and 29th homicides of the year, as well as the 142nd, 143rd, and 144th shooting victims this year.
