Two people injured after gunfire erupts at house party after West Point Day, police say

Two people were injured after gunfire erupted at a house party after West Point Day, Lanett police say.

After West Point Day was concluded on Sunday, September 3rd, 2023, over 100 people descended to what appeared to be a house party at a residence in the 2100 block of 22nd Ave SW in the West Shawmut community.

Around 12:55 AM on September 4th, 2023, a Lanett Police Officer was conducting a traffic stop in the area when he heard an extremely large amount of gunfire erupt where the party was being held.

Within 2 minutes Officers arrived on scene and observed hundreds of people and vehicles all fleeing the area.

”During the incident, officers did not locate anyone injured at the scene but were notified by dispatch that 2 people substantiating non-life-threatening injuries had arrived at an area hospital by private vehicle,” police said. “Lanett Police Department would like to thank Valley Police Department as well as Chambers County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.”

This case remains under investigation by the Lanett Police Department
