CNAW Newsroom —
Woman struck, killed by vehicle on Victory Drive identified
1 of 2

A Monday evening motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian has led to one woman dead and the suspected driver on the run.

Authorities were called to Victory Drive in the 1800 block due to the collision around 6:20 P.M. yesterday, December 5, 2022. The pedestrian was unresponsive and lifesaving measures were unsuccessful.

Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Dustin Harrelson was summoned to the scene and pronounced the pedestrian deceased at 7:47 P.M. The pedestrian was identified as Tomisha Shuntria Hayes, 28, of Knoxville, Tennessee, but coroner officials needed help locating a next of kin. Hours after community and media help, the mother of Hayes was located and notified by authorities, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan confirmed.

The driver of the vehicle involved ran from the scene, sources tell CNAW. Columbus police detectives are investigating the crash.

Victory Drive is infamous for fatality crashes. This is the third fatality related crash on Victory Drive this year, the past two crashes occurred on March 12, 2022, which left Bernard Thomas dead and on September 28, 2022, which left Nyteish Adeogum dead. In 2021, 4 people, Gregory Allridge, Joyce Murphy Burke, Rasheeda Peterson, and Robert Porter II, were killed in separate crashes on Victory Drive.
