What will the weather be for Friday night high school football in Columbus and Auburn?
Friday night games across west Georgia and east Alabama start in the 60s and finish in the upper 50s to low 60s, with light wind and rain chances under 10 percent from Columbus to LaFayette.

Friday afternoon climbs to about 79 degrees in Columbus, and then the evening takes it apart in a hurry. By the time the lights come on over the stands at Kinnett Stadium, the air will be 68 with a partly cloudy sky, a 5 mph breeze you will not notice and only an 8 percent rain chance. Two hours later it is 63. That is as warm as anywhere in the viewing area Friday night, and it is a comfortable 68 rather than a sticky one.
The coolest seats will be up in Chambers County. Around LaFayette, where LaFayette and Chambers Academy play, it will be 62 around kickoff and 56 by the fourth quarter, the chilliest finish on the board. Valley and Beulah, over in Valley, go 62 to 57. Barbour County in Clayton also starts at 62 and eases to 58, but with humidity near 87 percent it will be the dampest air of the night, and metal bleachers will feel clammy by the end.
Across the Auburn-Opelika area it is a near-perfect evening. Auburn and Lee-Scott sit at 63 around kickoff and 59 late, and Opelika and Beauregard do the same. Loachapoka runs 64 to 60 and Notasulga 64 to 59. At Booker T. Washington in Tuskegee the wind is forecast at nothing at all, so the flags will hang straight down, with 64 at kickoff and 59 two hours on.
Along the river it is a shade warmer. Central-Phenix City goes 64 to 60, Russell County in Seale 64 to 59, and Smiths Station and Glenwood 64 to 59. Harris County in Hamilton runs 65 to 61. In Columbus, where Shaw, Hardaway, Columbus, Spencer, Kendrick, Jordan, Carver, Northside, Calvary Christian, Pacelli and Brookstone all play, it is that 68 at kickoff and 63 late.
The north end of the viewing area cools fastest. Around LaGrange, home to LaGrange, Troup County and LaGrange Academy, it will be 65 around kickoff and 58 by the fourth quarter, a 7-degree slide. Callaway in Hogansville does the same thing, 64 to 57, and Greenville goes 63 to 57. Manchester holds up better at 65 to 60, and Lanett and Springwood stay mildest of the Alabama towns at 66 to 60.
South and east of Columbus the shirtsleeve weather lasts all night. Chattahoochee County in Cusseta, Marion County in Buena Vista, Stewart County in Lumpkin, Quitman County in Georgetown, Randolph Clay in Cuthbert and Webster County in Preston all start near 68 and only fall to 62 or 63. Schley County in Ellaville runs 67 to 62, Taylor County in Butler and Central-Talbotton 67 to 61. Eufaula goes 64 to 58.
Leave the umbrella at the house. Rain chances run from 6 to 9 percent everywhere, and the wind is 5 mph or less at every stop. Take a light jacket or a hoodie for the second half if you are in LaFayette, Valley, LaGrange, Hogansville or Greenville, and a blanket if you plan to sit still on aluminum. The drive home will be the coolest part of the night, and it is a warning shot: Saturday morning starts in the 40s.
Around kickoff → by the fourth quarter, on each school’s own clock.
No school or town by that name in the viewing area.
