What is the weather for high school football Friday night in Columbus and Auburn?
Friday night football across the Chattahoochee Valley will be dry and nearly calm, with kickoff temperatures from 59 degrees in LaFayette to 67 in Ellaville and 66 in Columbus, falling five to six degrees by the fourth quarter.

Friday night in the Valley is the kind of football weather people remember kindly. Step into the stands at Kinnett Stadium in Columbus around kickoff and it will be 66 degrees under a partly cloudy sky, with a 5 mph breeze barely moving the flags and a rain chance of 2 percent. Two hours later, as the fourth quarter runs down, it will be 60. That pattern holds valley-wide: upper 50s to mid 60s at the start, five or six degrees cooler by the end, and nowhere in the viewing area with more than a 6 percent chance of rain.
The coolest seats in the area are in Chambers County. Around LaFayette, where LaFayette and Chambers Academy play, it will be 59 degrees around kickoff and 54 by the fourth quarter. Valley and Beulah, over in Valley, start at 60 and finish at 54. Just up the road in Lanett, where Lanett and Springwood play, it runs warmer at 64 and 58, a full five degrees above LaFayette at the same hour.
Around LaGrange, where LaGrange, Troup County and LaGrange Academy play, the air will be dead calm at 62 degrees around kickoff and 55 by the end, with the rain chance at zero. It is the same story in Hogansville, home of Callaway: 62 falling to 55, no wind, no rain. Greenville gets to 54 by the fourth quarter as well, so Meriwether County fans should plan on a jacket.
In the Auburn-Opelika area, Auburn and Lee-Scott start at 61 and settle at 57, while Opelika and Beauregard start at 61 and finish at 56. Loachapoka and Notasulga both sit at 62 around kickoff and 57 later. In Tuskegee, Booker T. Washington gets 62 degrees and calm air, falling to 56.
Across the river from Columbus, Central-Phenix City will be 63 at kickoff and 57 late. Smiths Station and Glenwood see 62 and 56, and Russell County in Seale matches that.
The warmest football in the viewing area is east and south of Columbus. Schley County in Ellaville and Webster County in Preston both start at 67, the warmest kickoff numbers anywhere in the area, and finish at 61 and 60. Stewart County in Lumpkin, Randolph Clay in Cuthbert, Marion County in Buena Vista, Taylor County in Butler and Chattahoochee County in Cusseta all land near 66 at kickoff and 60 late. Those same towns carry the area's highest rain chances, and even there it tops out at 6 percent. Harris County in Hamilton sits at 64 and 59, Central-Talbotton at 65 and 59, and Manchester at 63 and 57.
Down in Barbour County, Clayton and Eufaula will be calm and damp, 60 and 61 at kickoff with humidity near 90 percent in Clayton. The air will feel heavier than the thermometer suggests, and metal bleachers will pick up the chill.
What to bring: a sweatshirt for the first half anywhere in the area, and a real jacket for the second half in LaFayette, Valley, Greenville, LaGrange and Hogansville. Leave the umbrella in the car. If you are sitting on aluminum, a blanket to sit on is worth more than another layer on top.
Around kickoff → by the fourth quarter, on each school’s own clock.
No school or town by that name in the viewing area.
