What is the weekend lake forecast for Lake Eufaula and West Point Lake?
Saturday is the better lake day, with Lake Eufaula reaching 78 degrees by 2 PM and winds no stronger than 10 mph, while Sunday morning brings a 57 percent rain chance at West Point Lake.

Here is the number that matters if you are hooking up a boat this weekend: the wind never gets above 10 mph on any of the three big lakes, at any point we checked, on either day. Mornings start around 5 mph and afternoons tick up to 10. That is well short of the 15 mph or so where a small boat starts taking a beating and a johnboat becomes a wet ride. The deciding factor this weekend is rain, not chop.
Stand on a dock at Lake Harding Saturday at 8 AM and it will be 60 degrees, mostly cloudy, with the water close to glass and a 1 percent rain chance. By 2 PM the reservoir north of Columbus warms to 74 with 10 mph on the surface and only an 8 percent chance of a shower. Sunday is a different morning entirely: 59 degrees at 8 AM with showers likely and a 55 percent rain chance, then 67 and a 37 percent chance by midafternoon.
West Point Lake, up by LaGrange and West Point, has the coolest start of the three. Saturday at 8 AM it is 57 degrees with light wind and essentially no rain chance, climbing to 72 by 2 PM. Sunday morning drops to 56 with a 57 percent chance of showers, the highest rain chance on any of the three lakes this weekend, and the afternoon only recovers to 64 with a 38 percent chance.
Lake Eufaula is the warm one, as it usually is this time of year. Saturday at 8 AM it is 62 degrees on the water, and by 2 PM the lake at Eufaula reaches 78, a full 6 degrees warmer than West Point Lake at the same hour. Rain chances Saturday stay low, 4 percent in the morning and 13 percent in the afternoon. Sunday morning runs 61 degrees with a 49 percent chance of showers, and the afternoon holds at 72 with a 32 percent chance, the mildest and driest Sunday of the three.
So the plan writes itself. Saturday is the day for anybody launching from Columbus, Phenix City, LaGrange or Georgetown, and the earlier the better, since afternoon clouds thicken and the shower chances creep up. If Sunday is your only day, Eufaula is the best bet, and midafternoon beats the morning everywhere.
Pack layers for the first hour. A 56-degree start at West Point Lake with a breeze over open water feels a good bit colder than 56 in the driveway, and you will be shedding that fleece by lunchtime. Put a rain jacket in the dry box for Sunday regardless of which lake you pick. And watch the clock in the evening: the sun sets in Columbus at 6:51 tonight and we are losing almost two minutes of daylight every day, so the run back to the ramp comes earlier than it did a month ago.
Each day, 8 AM → 2 PM.
