The Columbus animal community is shocked after a local man allegedly violently kicked, and assaulted a dog, who is named Penny, in her crate in the early days of January.
The man, identified as Charles Vanpelt, was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals on February 5th.
Security camera video shows Vanpelt walking into the crate and then allegedly kicking and violently assaulting Penny.
The video also shows after the incident, Vanpelt allegedly standing over Penny as Vanpelt’s wife and another person showed up. Penny, who was 15 pounds, was “reportedly seizing, her body contorting in ways her body shouldn’t be, bleeding from the mouth, and her eyes showing so much fear but her body no longer worked,” a post made by Jennifer Reese said.
Penny was euthanized to end her suffering due to being brain dead and reportedly would never recover and was constantly seizing. “She was not coming out of the seizures after 24 hours even with multiple different meds tried to get them under control,” Reese added.
The Columbus animal community continues to get justice for Penny.
