High speed chase ends in fatal Troup County crash 

A Sunday night chase ended in a fatal crash in Troup County.

The chase began on Interstate 85 when Troup County law enforcement responded to reports of a reckless driver around 8:00 P.M. As deputies responded, the driver fled leading law enforcement on a reckless high-speed chase down Interstate 85.

According to police radio traffic obtained by Troup County Breaking News, during the chase, the driver appeared to stick his head out of the sunroof and use his feet for steering. 

Finally, the chase ended when a PIT maneuver was completed by law enforcement leading to the driver crashing near the eight-mile marker on Interstate 85.

The driver, identified as 31-year-old William Melton, was pronounced dead after being flown to Grady Hospital in Atlanta, according to Troup County Coroner Erin Hackley. An investigation remains underway.
