Major Drug Bust in Smiths Station: Two Arrested, Child Rescued

Lee County law enforcement have arrested two people and rescued a baby following a major drug bust Friday morning.

The drug search warrant, which was executed by the Lee County Sheriff’s Investigative Division, SWAT team, Deputies and Muscogee County Sheriff’s Investigators, happened on September 20th, 2024 at approximately 6:00 AM central standard time in the 600 block of Lee Road 293 in the Smiths Station community of Lee County. 

The search warrant, led by Lee County Investigators FAST team, resulted in the arrest of 48-year-old Kenneth Byron Halsey and 30-year-old Kacee Jo Pruitt, both from Smiths Station. 

During the search, approximately 869 grams of Methamphetamine, a small amount of Marijuana, drug paraphernalia and 3 firearms were recovered.

“A nine month old child was present at the scene and was immediately placed in the custody of the Alabama Department of Human Resources,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Halsey and Pruitt were both charged with Trafficking Methamphetamine, Chemical Endangerment of a Child, Possession of Marijuana in the 2nd Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. 

Both are being held in the Lee County Jail on a $56,000.00 bond each.
