A LaGrange man is in jail in the investigation of a double homicide and fire.
The double homicide and fire investigation began after authorities with the city’s fire department initially responded to 102 Fendig Street on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 11:30 PM for a structure fire.
Firefighters immediately extinguished the blaze and while conducting a search of the residence found two bodies.
The bodies were later discovered to have been shot. According to authorities, the bodies have been identified as 38-year-old Jabreka Williams and 40-year-old Roderick Kennedy.
Following nearly a week long investigation, charges have been filed and a man has been booked.
Police said on February 14, 2025, at approximately 6:00 PM, LaGrange Police Detectives issued murder charges against 35-year-old Travis Rivers.
“Rivers was arrested on February 9, 2025, due to an active felony probation violation warrant and aggravated stalking charges as part of this ongoing investigation,” police said. “Rivers has been held in the Troup County Jail since that date.”
Rivers is now charged with two counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of home invasion, one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Rivers is also a suspect in a sexual assault and aggravated assault case on a 38-year-old unidentified female victim which occurred at the same address as the fire, 102 Fendig Street. The sexual assault and aggravated battery occurred on January 25, 2025, fifteen days before the double homicide and fire. Rivers was arrested for violating a conditional bond order in that incident.
