Four people are dead following a horrific motor vehicle collision overnight in Troup County.
The collision involving a white GMC Sierra 2500 and a red Nissan Altima shortly before 12:30 A.M. on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at the intersection of New Franklin Road (GA-1) at Wares Cross Road.
Georgia State Patrol confirmed the Nissan was traveling west on Wares Cross Road, failed to obey the red traffic signal, and entered the intersection. The GMC was traveling north on GA-1 in the right lane. The GMC struck the Nissan in the left side with its front. The Nissan rotated multiple times, while traveling northwest, and ejected the unrestrained right rear passenger before coming to a rest, blocking the right southbound travel lane of GA-1. The GMC rotated, traveling northwest, exited the north travel lanes and came to a rest in the median of GA-1.
All four occupants of the Nissan succumbed to their injuries at the crash scene. Troup County Coroner Erin Hackley confirmed the identities of the four that passed away. They have been identified as 23-year-old Zanquavious Swint, 25-year-old Caleb Bonds, 32-year-old Amanda Arrington and 33-year-old James Palmer.
The driver of the GMC was transported to WellStar West GA with serious injuries, according to Georgia State Patrol.
