The Alabama Department of Transportation is mourning the loss of one of its longtime employees following a deadly work zone incident in Bullock County.

According to ALDOT, Amad Jackson, a crew leader with the department, was killed in a work zone incident on Wednesday.

Jackson dedicated 24 years of service to ALDOT. Officials said his commitment, leadership and hard work left a lasting impact on those who worked alongside him throughout his career.

In a statement, ALDOT expressed condolences to Jackson’s family, friends and coworkers during this difficult time.

The department also said the tragedy serves as a reminder of the dangers roadway workers face every day while working in construction and maintenance zones across the state.

ALDOT is urging drivers to slow down, stay alert and use caution when traveling through work zones to help protect workers on Alabama roadways.
