In less than 48 hours, the No Kings protest will begin, and organizers from Indivisible Columbus and Indivisible Phenix City are emphasizing their commitment to peaceful demonstration.
The protests are scheduled for the morning of June 14 in uptown Columbus and is part of a national day of action responding to President Donald Trump’s planned military parade on his birthday and on the military’s 250th anniversary.
According to a joint statement from the two Indivisible chapters, both groups have secured proper permits for the demonstration. Indivisible Columbus will gather at Broadway and 10th Street, while Indivisible Phenix City will be stationed at Broadway and 13th Street. Police previously confirmed the groups’ permits in a statement earlier this week, noting they are preparing for potential crowds during the Saturday morning events.
“No other groups are affiliated with the planning of the No Kings protest,” organizers said in their statement. Planning for the No Kings protest began in early May, organizers stated, and reflects the national network’s unified response to what they describe as “an unnecessary show of force” with the proposed military parade.
Organizers also reiterated to attendees in the event of disruptions from outside individuals: “In the unlikely event that individuals outside of our organization come to the event and behave in ways that are contrary to our peaceful values, we strongly encourage attendees to sit if they are able. Attendees should quietly listen to and follow instructions from our trained de-escalators. We are 100% committed to and united in peace.”
Participants are encouraged to bring signs to the protest but reminded that sticks or poles are not permitted.
Columbus Police said earlier that they are aware of the scheduled protests and will have officers present to ensure safety and facilitate lawful assembly.
