Two dead, one critical after apparent drug overdose in Columbus

Authorities are conducting a death investigation after an incident early Saturday morning.

The investigation began after a multi-person overdose occurred at the Budgetel Inn and Suites on Victory Drive. Authorities with the Coroner’s Office responded to the call around 6:30 Saturday morning.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said two people died and a third is in critical condition at a local hospital after a reported drug-overdose.

The identities of the deceased victims are 35-year-old Devanar Simmons and 43-year-old Antoine Santel Burnett, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan. Autopsies are being scheduled to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

Columbus police has not released any information on their social media sites or website following the incident, but we are told, they are conducting an investigation.
