A state and local investigation is underway after accelerants were found in a second Opelika daycare fire.

The first fire occurred at 311 S. Sixth Street, which is the address of By His Grace Daycare and Learning Center, around 3:20 a.m. on January 13, 2026.

The second fire occurred at 11:30 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 116 Columbus Parkway, which is the address of Children’s Palace Learning Center.

Firefighters were able to extinguish both fires, and no injuries were reported in either incident, according to a city press release.

The initial investigation led to the discovery of glass mason jars filled with accelerant at both locations. Investigators are working to determine if the two fires are linked. 

The Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office, Opelika Fire Department, and the Opelika Police Department are investigating.
