Fayetteville man dies after jeep strikes scooter near Opelika, troopers say

A Fayetteville man has died following a crash on Tuesday in the Beulah community of Lee County.

The crash occurred on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, around 8:24 p.m. central time, on U.S. Highway 29 N near Lee Road 270.

According to state troopers, the crash happened when a 2021 Jeep Cherokee driven by a 51-year-old Opelika woman struck a scooter operated by 38-year-old Bryan J. Pesotski while it was stationary in the roadway.

Pesotski was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional – Midtown in Columbus, Ga., for medical treatment and was listed in critical condition.

Pesotski was pronounced deceased at the hospital on Thursday, April 9.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division are continuing to investigate.
