Columbus police are investigating a deadly shooting Thursday afternoon in the east end of the city.

The shooting occurred around 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026, in the area of Merrywood Drive and Southern Pines Drive.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said the shooting left Dean Hill, 30, pronounced deceased at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown campus emergency room.

Police said one suspect is in custody.

“This is an active and developing investigation,” police said. “More information will be released as it becomes available.”

The Violent Crimes Unit is leading the investigation.
