Emergency crews rescued a resident trapped inside a home after a large oak tree crashed through the structure during severe thunderstorms Monday evening.

According to the LaGrange Fire Department, crews were dispatched at approximately 5:45 p.m. on June 1 to a reported residential structural collapse with a person trapped inside at 1103 First Avenue.

Upon arrival, firefighters determined a large oak tree had fallen onto the residence as severe thunderstorms moved through the area, producing wind gusts approaching 60 mph.

Three people were inside the home when the tree struck. Two occupants were able to escape safely, but a third occupant became trapped in a bedroom after the impact caused portions of the roof and ceiling to collapse.

Before emergency crews arrived, a family member re-entered the damaged home in an effort to help the trapped resident. Firefighters and officers with the LaGrange Police Department worked alongside the family member to lift the collapsed structural debris and safely free the occupant.

The LaGrange Fire Department said crews responded to multiple weather-related incidents as storms moved through the area Monday evening.

In a separate incident, another residence at 610 Park Avenue sustained significant damage after a tree fell onto the home during the storm.

No serious injuries were reported in either incident.
