Muscogee County election officials released unofficial and incomplete results Tuesday evening from advance voting and absentee-by-mail ballots in several closely watched local races, providing an early snapshot of voter preferences before Election Day votes are added to the count.

The results include the Columbus mayoral runoff, the Special District 9 At-Large Columbus Council election, and the District 7 Columbus Council race. Election Day votes were not included in the report.

Mayoral Runoff

In the race to become Columbus’ next mayor, Isaiah Hugley Sr. holds a sizable lead over Joanne Cogle in the advance and absentee vote count.

According to the unofficial results, Hugley received 9,786 votes compared to 5,241 votes for Cogle, a margin of more than 4,500 votes. The winner will succeed Mayor Skip Henderson, who is term-limited after serving two terms in office.

District 9 At-Large Special Election

In the Special District 9 At-Large Columbus Council election, Cathy Cook leads incumbent John Anker in the advance and absentee vote count.

Cook received 10,542 votes, while Anker received 4,333 votes.

District 7 Council Race

In the District 7 Columbus Council race, Rebecca “Becca” Zajac leads Laketha Ashe in the early vote tally.

Zajac received 554 votes from advance voting and absentee ballots, while Ashe received 431 votes.

Election officials emphasized that the results released Tuesday evening are unofficial and incomplete. Additional votes cast on Election Day will be added to the totals as counting continues.
