Auburn man initially charged with assault has now been charged with manslaughter after a pedestrian struck by a vehicle last month died from his injuries.

The Auburn Police Department announced that 28-year-old Michael Alexander Sherrill of Auburn was arrested on July 24, 2026, on a charge of manslaughter.

The charge stems from an incident that occurred on June 25, 2026, when officers responded to the 200 block of West Magnolia Avenue following reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers located a 68-year-old male suffering from injuries and immediately rendered medical aid. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Following the initial investigation, Sherrill was arrested and charged with assault in the second degree.

Police said the victim later died from the injuries sustained in the incident. Following the victim’s death and the continued investigation, the charge against Sherrill was upgraded to manslaughter.

Sherrill was arrested on July 24 and transported to the Lee County Jail, where he is being held on a $25,000 bond.
