Firefighters from multiple departments responded Tuesday afternoon to a large brush fire in the Dixie community of Russell County.

The fire was reported around 3:50 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, in the 100 block of County Road 63, also known as Gullatt Road.

A large plume of smoke could be seen in the area, with reports of ashes falling onto surrounding yards as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.

According to fire officials, approximately 15 acres burned. No homes or other structures were damaged, officials said.

The following departments responded:
• Dixie Volunteer Fire Department: 1 apparatus, 2 personnel
• Crawford Volunteer Fire Department: 3 apparatus, 5 personnel
• Uchee Creek Volunteer Fire Department: 1 apparatus, 1 personnel
• Beauregard Volunteer Fire Department: 1 apparatus, 2 personnel

Deputies with the Russell County Sheriff’s Office and Lee County Sheriff’s Office also responded, along with medics from CARE Ambulance and members of the Alabama Forestry Commission.

No injuries were reported.

Fire officials said the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
