The Troup County Fire Department responded to a reported commercial structure fire Tuesday afternoon at a business located at 3066 West Point Road.

Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 12 p.m. on September 8 and arrived to find a fire requiring extensive suppression operations.

Crews worked to contain and extinguish the fire while dealing with extremely high temperatures and challenging building conditions.

Firefighters also took additional steps to ensure the scene was safe before clearing the area.

One firefighter was transported by a medevac unit to a local hospital after experiencing heat exhaustion. The firefighter was treated and has since been released.

“These firefighters kept pushing forward in a situation that was not ideal, given the building and weather conditions yesterday,” Public Safety Director Zac Steele said. “They put in extraordinary work to ensure fire suppression efforts were completed as safely as possible. Their courage, strength, and dedication under extreme conditions are a testament to our entire staff of Public Safety employees.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Troup County Fire Marshal’s Division.

The Troup County Fire Department thanked the LaGrange Fire Department, Troup County Sheriff’s Office, Troup County Marshal’s Office, Troup County E-911, Troup County Roads & Engineering, AMR, and Air Life for their assistance during the response and recovery efforts.
