The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has provided an update on the disappearance of a Columbus woman who has been missing since February.

According to ALEA, Special Agents with the State Bureau of Investigation launched a missing person investigation in June 2026 at the request of the Columbus Police Department.

Eden Sexton, 49, was reported missing to Columbus police in February after she was last seen in the area of the 4000 block of Victory Drive in Columbus.

During the investigation, Columbus police identified Comer McWaters, 68, of Little Texas, Alabama, in Macon County, as a person of interest in connection with Sexton’s disappearance.

ALEA said its Special Agents later developed evidence that resulted in a murder warrant being obtained for McWaters in connection with Sexton’s death.

On Monday, Sept. 21, McWaters was located and arrested in Perry County, Mississippi, by deputies with the Perry County Sheriff’s Office.

McWaters was charged in Mississippi with trespassing, disorderly conduct, assault on an officer, resisting arrest and providing false identification to law enforcement.

He was booked into the Perry County Jail in Mississippi, where ALEA says he remains pending extradition to Alabama.

ALEA did not provide additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding Sexton’s death or the evidence leading to the murder warrant.
